Supplements to Improve Brain Fog

Of the many complaints I hear patients report, brain fog is up near the top. For those of you who experience this symptom, you know how difficult it can be. It’s important to understand that this is a symptom of brain inflammation. An inflamed brain is a slow brain. It produces the “fog” we feel when trying to get out a thought, a word, or retrieve a memory.

There are many reasons for this to occur, and a detailed intake and examination is recommended. However, there are some powerful nutritional and herbal formulations that can help reduce the neurological inflammation and ease some of the fog that is interfering with your day.

Here is a short list of some very helpful nutraceutical formulations which can help.

Turmero Active

This is a liquid concentrated curcumin formula. Curcumin is a primary anti-inflammatory compound found in the culinary and medicinal herb turmeric. It is what makes turmeric or curry yellow! This compound is wonderful at reducing inflammatory pathways specific to brain tissue. 1 – 3 teaspoons per day should do the trick!

Fish Oils

Taking therapeutic doses of the anti-inflammatory Omega 3 Fatty Acids found in fish oil (EPA and DHA) can have a powerful effect on brain function. These Fatty Acids get taken up into the cell membranes of brain and nerve cells helping to create a more naturally uninflamed environment. These compounds also help the nerves function more optimally and protect against damage to the nerve tissue. 3,000mg’s per day of EPA and DHA combined constitutes a “therapeutic dosage.” This is 4 pills per day. (If on blood thinning medications, please consult your MD or this clinic for more specific recommendations, as these can thin the blood further.)

Trizomal Glutathione

Glutathione is our primary intracellular antioxidant and is instrumental in keeping inflammation low in the cells. It is also a vital part of the blood brain barrier which is a protective barrier system for the brain. Glutathione deficiency is common and can lead to breakdowns in this barrier system and allow for neurological inflammation to set in. This is a liquid formula which contains both glutathione and glutathione precursor compounds to provide three ways to absorb and utilize glutathione. A truly fantastic formula! 1-3 teaspoons per day is a fantastic dose!

Neuro 02

This formula contains herbs and nutritional compounds shown in the medical literature to open blood flow to the brain, protect the blood vessels, and promote tissue repair. By improving blood flow, the brain can function at a more optimal level. If you are someone who experiences cold hands and feet or has nail fungus that you can’t seem to heal, you likely have poor blood flow to your brain as well. This could be the formula for you. 3 – 6 pills per day (depending upon the severity of the brain fog) is recommended.
